PAINTBALL
What is Paintball? Paintball is a well organised, exciting and expanding sport that in recent years has become the fastest growing sport in Europe!! Recreational paintball consists of two teams armed with paintball markers (guns) battling against each other within different game scenarios to capture a flag, rescue a comrade, siege the embassy or be the last one standing!!
Mostly people sample paintball as part of a group party but once there many get a real passion for the game and return on a regular basis. Some even take the next step into tournament paintball (that’s right... there are worldwide paintball tournaments!!) as did many of our staff here at the Asylum and the passion they have for the sport has led to the creation of The Asylum, a new paintball phenomenon which mixes traditional paintball with our new style paintball experience where the arena resembles that of a film set and the themed lighting and sound effects really get the adrenaline pumping!!
Who can play paintball? ANYONE who is over 11 and mobile!!! Paintball is for anybody who likes action, adventure, competition, strategy, teamwork or skill!! People from all walks of life enjoy paintball because it is a combination of mental strategy and physical strength, a tactical player can easily compete against someone with more physical fitness and an older player against a younger one! Each player will use their strengths to play an important role within the team. The game is always adapting and you are sure to find a style that suits you!!
Does it hurt? It doesn’t hurt but it does sting a little bit!! It is fair to compare the average hit from a paintball to a firm flick onto the skin, wearing a few layers of clothing helps to take the sting out!! During the games the anticipation of being shot helps to get the adrenaline pumping and increase the enjoyment of the game. There are rules that our players at The Asylum have to abide by to ensure optimum safety (and enjoyment!!!) at all times and our experienced and professional marshals are onsite to ensure compliance.
How many people do we need to play? 1 player upwards. If you want to come and play paintball on your own, no problem we'll book you in on a day that you can join another group!! We will accommodate any other number of people and arrange bookings to ensure good team sizes!! If you book for 20+ people, not only will you receive a discount, but if desired we will be able to close the session for you so that you play against each other!! Our site capacity at The Asylum is 100 at present, so if you have 99 friends that want to play paintball, bring them along!
What shall I wear? We advise that you wear comfortable fitting clothes and suitable footwear. The myth is that wearing a few layers can help to take the 'sting out of it'.. The truth is that this is paintball and the 'sting of it' is what it is all about!! Wearing unnecessary layers will only limit your agility and make you sweat! Just be comfortable!!
PAINTBALLS
What are paintballs? Paintballs are not actually made from paint?! They are non-toxic and bio-degradable soft gelatine capsules containing a mixture of vegetable oil and food colouring!!
How many will I need? People often want to know how many paintballs are used within a session... well, that all depends on how much you pull the trigger!! The recommended amount in a half day session is between 300 and 500 balls and in our experience this is about right, to accommodate this our paintball packages incorporate entrance, all equipment hire and also varying amounts of paintballs!! There is no need to worry about running out of paintballs on the day; you can gladly buy more from our paintball shop!! Prices start and £7.99 for 100 and the price per ball is reduced if bought in bulk!
EQUIPMENT
What is needed? There are some basic pieces of equipment you will need to play paintball. A mask to protect your face and eyes which must be worn at all times whilst in the gaming zones. A hopper which holds and feeds the paintballs into the barrel of the paintball marker (gun). A compressed air tank which when released by the trigger pushes the ball out through the barrel, overalls to protect clothing, a battle pack to hold your paintball pots and finally a paintball marker (gun). All this is provided by The Asylum along with the opportunity to rent gloves and body armour.
Can I bring my own equipment? You are more than welcome to bring your own equipment to our ‘Walk-On’ sessions held on two Thursdays a month. See our packages page for details.
